On April 22, 2021, Amazon announced that they will be changing the restock limits :

 

Effective April 22, 2021, FBA products will no longer be subject to ASIN-level quantity limits. Instead, restock limits will be set at the storage-type level, offering you more flexibility in managing your shipments.

This announcement threw the world of Amazon sellers into panic mode mainly because it wasn’t hinted at before and many sellers felt blind-sighted just before Prime Day. Shortly after this post Amazon Forum was overflowed with comments from sellers worried about the future of their businesses.

What exactly is the new Amazon Restock Limit?

Restock Limits are calculated based on your history of sales and a forecast of future sales. The new update states that now Seller Restock Limits are calculated according to the storage type and not the ASIN level as in the past. There are four types of storage: standard size, oversize, apparel, and footwear. The change is individual for each seller and it is calculated based on the account’s sales in the past and future predictions.

Where can I see my Restock Limit?

You can see your Restock Limit in Seller Central and click on Inventory Performance or Shipping Queue Pages.

However, Amazon announced that they will be changing the Restock Limit and therefore it is recommended to monitor it frequently. If you have concerns or you think that your limit hasn’t been calculated properly reach out to Seller Central and they will reevaluate your account.

What can I do about the new Restock Limit?

The most important thing you can do at the moment is to diversify your shipment and storage. Invest in a 3PL storage or your storage and send the shipment there before sending it to Amazon. This step will help with constant product flow and no delays in shipment to customers or cancellations with manufacturers. 

The second thing you should do is cancel any shipments that you don’t plan to use. In this way, you should free space for the products that are in demand and have them constantly in stock. 

The last thing you should do is diversify your selling options. Think about marketplaces besides Amazon where you can place your products.
